Vintage Earrings for sale
This pair of vintage enameled copper earrings (1-7/8") has the engraved signature of Matisse on the clips. There is a chip on one earring. These are sold for $45 and up but I am selling them for $30. I have another pair of these that I replaced the clips with posts and wear often. I love them.
Matisse, LTD. was established in Los Angeles by Jerry Fels and family in 1952, featured copper jewelry with colorful enameled designs. It ceased production in 1964. The Matisse mark was used only on the luscious enameled pieces produced starting in the early 1950s.
Matisse, subsidiary of Renoir of California that was founded in 1946 by Jerry Fels, specialized from 1952 onwards in the enameled version of his red copper designs, that were already sold earlier under the name Renoir. Both Matisse and Renoir jewelry was made until 1964, when Fels retired and left for Florida. At first Matisse was a separate firm, but after some time it became part of the Renoir company. This can also be found in the signatures used.
